My work is mixed media abstract nature and landscape paintings using various papers, cloth, stones, acrylic and watercolor  on board or oil on canvas. When I travel or study a place, I take in its essence through all my senses, whether it is the ocean, mountains, forest or people. I take photographs to help me remember the images. I also collect unique papers when I travel.  The essence and spirit of our beautiful earth is what I am seeking to capture, and I hope to generate a sense of awe for the beauty of the earth in the viewer. When that happens a sense of knowing resonates with the viewer and a heart and soul connection is made.

In my studio I select papers, hand made papers, silk, linen, other cloth, ribbon, gold foil, objects (shells, seeds, stone, plant materials, etc.). Then I glue the arrangement onto mat board. After that dries I may add acrylic paint, oil pastel, pencil, or gold leaf. Other textures are achieved by gluing fabric or objects onto canvas, or painting with "texture paint" on mat board before adding color.

Currently I have a series of giclee  Prints  on heavy watercolor paper, 13 images, 12 square, matted to 20 by 20 inches and one long, matted to 16 by 32 inches. I have started an ambitious series of doing a painting of each of our fifty states honoring the state tree as well as the shape of the state and its county lines and beautiful areas of the state.  These are on canvas, most are 30 by 40 inches, some larger and a few smaller.  32 paintings are now done. The first twenty nine of these are now available in prints.  See these on the Prints   page as well.

Each creation is an adventure in exploration for the essence of our beautiful earth. I hope the viewer will enjoy the journey with me. There will always be growth and evolution in my work.

Many have asked me how I came to call myself "Four Winds Woman".  Well, I didn't make it up.  Several years ago I attended a Medicine Wheel gathering with Sun Bear and other native teachers.  I had a strong feeling that I would receive a new name.  When I said this to one of the leaders, I told him I planned to build a medicine wheel when I returned home.  He said, "That is your name, Four Directions Woman".  He drew the name in symbol.

I softened it with rounded curves, a female head in profile with a feather at the neck and a cross within a circle at the ear.  I later learned that the symbol also meant 4 winds, so I adopted that as my signature on paintings and later as my business name.
